Hi, I’m Kyle — and Move Eaze started with one truck and a few college buddies
I grew up in Mishawaka, just up the road from where our trucks park today. Like a lot of kids around here, my first taste of the moving business was hauling Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s students in and out of dorms and off-campus rentals every single move-in week. Couches up tight stairwells in August heat, mini-fridges down basement steps in the rain — if you have ever carried a futon across campus during the first week of class, you know exactly what I am talking about. I loved it. I was good at it. And I kept noticing the same frustrating thing over and over.
Families and students would call around, get a too-good-to-be-true price over the phone, and then watch the bill balloon once their stuff was already on the truck and they had no choice but to pay it. That always sat wrong with me. So in 2011 I rounded up a couple of college buddies, scraped together enough for one truck, and started Move Eaze on a pretty stubborn idea: tell people the real number up front, in writing, and then honor it. One easy flat rate. No games.
What fifteen years in Michiana taught us
Moving here is its own animal, and you only really learn it by living it. The August rush when the whole student body arrives at once. The lake-effect snow that rolls off Lake Michigan and buries us from November clear through March. The steep old Midwest basements and the narrow drives behind the brick four-squares in Sunnymede and Harter Heights. The Granger new-builds out east where the staircases turn twice before they let you up. We figured out how to move through all of it — how to keep trucks dug out and salted so move day still happens, how to time the Notre Dame dorm slots, how to get a baby grand up out of a River Park basement without a single scratch.
We built the company around showing up. Showing up on time. Showing up smiling, even when it is twelve degrees and the driveway is sheet ice. Showing up with our own people — every crew member is a W-2 employee of ours, trained by us, not some day-laborer we found that morning. That matters, because the person carrying your great-grandmother’s hutch should be someone who actually answers to me.
Still family-owned, still hands-on
These days we run seven trucks and a crew I am genuinely proud of. Megan writes every flat-rate quote and wrangles the certificates of insurance the campus buildings need. Brett maps the day around the Toll Road and the snow so a truck is never stuck idling at a dock. Marcus runs our Sunnymede, Mishawaka, and Granger crews and knows every tight historic stairwell in town. Wade gets the pianos and gun safes where they need to go. Hailey keeps the storage and dorm timing straight. But I still ride along on the bigger Sunnymede and downtown jobs myself — I live over in Granger, my kids go to school here, and these are my neighbors I am moving.
That is really the whole story. We are a South Bend company, run by South Bend people, that decided the honest way and the easy way could be the same way.
